TOTAL LICENSING
appeals to both preschool and the teen market. “We are now actively looking
at electronics and technology for SpongeBob as he has such a high following
in the teen market”.
Teens and tweens are high on the agenda for Nickelodeon. “I strongly be-
lieve we should be aiming at this market now”, he explained. “For example,
Manga is incredibly popular in France. Asian properties such as Hello
Kitty and Pucca have done really well and we
have high hopes for iCarly and Kai-Lan in
the market”.
As the number two licensor in France
(after Disney), Laurent still sees the need
to educate retailers although the bigger
chains are now much better informed than
they used to be. “Auchan and Toys R Us
are extremely good to work with and un-
derstand the power of licensing. We have
a costume character parade in Auchan
twice a year, for example. It really helps to
promote the brands. However, the French
marketplace still generally needs educat-
ing in terms of licensing. That said, the opportuni-
ties are there and are undoubtedly growing”.
With 15 years experience in the French marketplace, Copyright Promotions

Moving forwards, CPG are actively promoting Iron Man and The Incredible
Hulk from the Marvel stable, together with Ice Age 3 from Fox.
In terms of new properties, CPG are licensing Horseland, the animated DIC
series, which already has apparel and bedlinen licenses in place. In addition,
the new series Rupert Bear will be broadcast on France 5 and Tiji.

a number of their properties including Cooking? Child’s Play.

the DS videogame is scheduled to launch next year through 505 Games and
