TOTAL LICENSING
GRANADA APPOINT MASTER LICENSEE FOR BELLA SARA
Granada Ventures has named Sababa Toys as the master toy licensee in all English-speaking territories for its girls’ fantasy
horse-themed property Bella Sara. This is the first global deal to be announced for the brand, with a worldwide publishing
license and new media license to follow imminently.
Bella Sara targets girls ages 5-12 and originally launched in Scandinavia as horse-themed collectible trading cards and an
online world at www.bellasara.com. In 2007 this was rolled out across the globe, selling over 30 million cards and attract-
ing 1.6 million users to the website. Granada Ventures represents worldwide licensing rights for Bella Sara (excluding
Scandinavia) in all categories, with the exception of collectible cards and entertainment programming which are held by
licensor Hidden City Games.
Sababa Toys will develop a comprehensive toy line, including action figures and games an-
ticipated to hit the shelves in Autumn 2008. Stone Newman, President of Sababa Toys com-
mented, “We are thrilled to be part of the Bella Sara excitement. Bella Sara represents
everything girls love: from beautiful horses to magical fantasy to inspiring messages that
encourage friendship and sharing. We look forward to bringing to life these wonderful
themes through unique and captivating product.”
Granada Ventures will continue to seek leading partners to develop other key categories,
including apparel, accessories, greeting cards and stationery for this unusual property for
girls.
On a different note, Granada and Open Mind Productions have secured a major publishing
deal with Egmont which will see the publisher launch a range of Numberjacks books in
2008 and a monthly Numberjacks magazine title.
Egmont UK will be the official publisher of Numberjacks for the UK, Eire and English lan-
guage Commonwealth territories, and the publishing programme will kick off in Spring/Summer 2008 with the monthly
magazine title aimed at a core age group of 3 – 6 year olds. Each issue will include a cover-mounted gift, songs, puzzles,
board games and cut-out-and-make activities
The initial range of books will launch in August 2008, with further titles released throughout 2009. The Numberjacks range
will feature all traditional book formats including; storybooks, activity books and novelty books (drawing, colouring, press-
out pieces and wipe clean), together with a Numberjacks Annual for release in the first year. All of Egmont’s ‘Numberjacks’
publishing will be strongly supported by PR and marketing initiatives directed towards both trade and consumers.
DECODE SIGN DEALS IN GERMANY
Decode Enterprises, the distribution subsidiary of Decode Enter-
tainment’s parent company, DHX Media Ltd., has signed a further
major deal in the German market with Cartoon Network Germa-
ny acquiring all TV rights to Chop Socky Chooks, a Decode Enter-
tainment co-production with Aardman Animations. AimedAimed atat 7-117-11
year olds, the series comprises 26 x 22 minutes of 3D animation.
Currently in production for Cartoon Network (Worldwide) and
Teletoon, Chop Socky Chooks is Decode and Aardman’s second
co-production following Planet Sketch, which has sold to major
broadcasters worldwide. The Chop Socky Chooks multi-territory
agreement with Cartoon Network was concluded by Aardman
and the commission from Teletoon was arranged by Decode En-
tertainment.
Anke Greifeneder, Director Programming and Acquisitions from
Cartoon Network in Germany said:,“Chop Socky Chooks per-
fectly combines comedy and action. We are excited to have this
high quality production as world premiere on Cartoon Network
in Germany.”
NATIONAL TRUST SIGN WITH EMPIRE
The National Trust for Historic Preservation announced that The Empire Company has been licensed to develop a new
collection of authentic mouldings inspired by the Landmark homes of the National Trust. The mouldings will be available
exclusively at Lowe’s.
Representatives from Empire and the National Trust toured the United States, visiting a number of sites for inspiration.
In the end, they came up with six moulding styles and the new mouldings will be available in-store and via special order
in the Spring.
