Munich-based distribution company Telepool and U.S. based The Weinstein Company have signed a distribution deal
for 3D animated film ‘Niko & The Way To The Stars,’ acquiring all English-language and Latin American territories to
the German-Finish-Irish-Danish co-production about the adventures of little reindeer Niko.
“We are very proud to have such an internationally successful film production and distribution group as The Weinstein
Company as a partner on ‘Niko & The Way To The Stars,’” said Irina Ignatiew, executive vice president of international
at Telepool GmbH. “This extraordinary animated film is a modern-day fairytale for the whole family.”
The CGI-animated film tells the tale of little Niko. The tiny reindeer’s dream is to be able to fly like his father - who
is one of the famous “Flying Forces” who helps Santa Claus deliver presents to children around the world. But then
something terrible happens. Niko sets off to warn his father of the black Wolf and his pack, and their plan to hunt
down the Flying Forces and take their place. Niko has to stop them before it is too late. With the help of Julius, a
klutzy flying squirrel and Wilma, a wily woman weasel, the trio set off on their adventure. With a combination of pluck,
humour and friendship, the unlikely heroes find their way and rescue Christmas.
The film will have its European Premiere on October 10, 2008, initially in Scandinavia, where it is being released by
Nordisk Film.
Directors are Michael Hegner (Denmark) and Kari Juusonen (Finland), executive producers are Anima Vitae and Cin-
emaker (Finland), Ulysses (Germany), A.Film (Denmark) and Magma Films (Ireland). Niko & The Way To The Stars has
already been sold in more than 100 territories. Universum is releasing the animation feature in Germany, with Filmax
distributing in Spain.
Barry Gordon, executive vice president of home entertainment, and Laine Kline, senior vice president of business and
legal affairs, negotiated the agreement on behalf of The Weinstein Company. Irina Ignatiew, executive vice president,
international, and Kilian Steiner, head of business and legal affairs, negotiated on behalf of Telepool GmbH.
