extreme sports, may not be covered;
• Strikes, civil disturbances and terrorist acts may not be covered;
• Certain policies will cover you if your travel operator goes out of business, but only if they weren’t already on a “watch-list” of suspected shaky companies;
• If you are going on a cruise or tour, make sure the policy covers the entire trip, including airfare, hotel, shore excursions, sightseeing and any touring; and
• Know if the coverage is primary or secondary. Secondary coverage means that you must file a claim with your other insurance (such as homeowners or medical) before the travel insurance will kick in. Primary coverage means that the travel insurance reimburses you before any other insurance.
