Five Ways to Save on Car Insurance
Most states require drivers to buy car insurance, which can cover three things:

• Your liability — which pays for damages to other people and their property if you are at fault;

• Medical coverage — which pays for your medical bills if you are injured; and

• Collision/comprehensive coverage — which pays to repair damages to your car.

All but two states require you to buy a minimum amount of coverage. New Hampshire and Wisconsin don’t require insurance, but they do require you to pay claims if you cause an accident, so most people buy insurance to cover that liability.

Depending on your needs and how much risk you feel comfortable with, you might want to buy more coverage than the state requires.
How much you pay for car insurance depends on where you live, what you drive and how far you drive in a year, as well as considerations such as your credit history and how much coverage you purchase.
