UNITED MEDIA PROPERTIES ENJOY INTERNATIONAL
SUCCESS
United Media report that, in Brazil, Liguria has signed on to produce a range of Peanuts character
shaped pastas and soups due to launch this Spring. Almix continues to grow its housewares collec-
tion with fun designs featuring Snoopy, Woodstock and the rest of the gang. In Mexico, publisher
Editorial Cordillera, will run a campaign that features the Spanish version of The Charlie Brown
Dictionary as part of a newspaper promotion this Summer.
Over 20 licensees in Latin America have embraced the Precious Moments inspirational messages
of “Celebrating Life.” United Media signed the first Central American apparel partner, Industrias St.
Jacks, who will launch its line this Spring. Manufacturas de Papel grows in popularity with the release
of a new notebook collection, and Microcom will continue to expand its gift and stationery line
through September 2008. Last, but not least, Mexico based Telas de Hogar is scheduled to introduce
a new line of bedding in the upcoming months.
Six new books featuring the Peanuts gang recently launched in Eastern Europe, marking United Me-
dia’s first publishing deals in Greece and Poland. Nisza Ksiegarnia has introduced the Peanuts Guide
to Life in Poland, which soared to the top 10 best seller’s list. The Happiness Is... series will be revived
in Greece by Erevnites this Spring.
MARVISTA ENTERTAINMENT ANNOUNCES NEW LICENSING
AGREEMENT FOR THE SERIES THE ZULA PATROL
MarVista Entertainment has announced that is has concluded a significant licensing agreement with pan Latin channel
National Geographic for the critically acclaimed CGI series The Zula Patrol. The series is scheduled for broadcast on the
channels’ new pre school block to be named Nat Geo and Me.
Launching in April 2007, Nat Geo and Me will target children ages 2–5 years old and will broadcast for four hours each
morning, featuring amongst other programs The Zula Patrol, the only series for kids based on science and astronomy.
MarVista has also announced that 26 new episodes of The Zula Patrol, was launched at this years MIP-TV, bringing the
total number of episodes available to 52 half-hours. In the second season of The Zula Patrol, topics will include: Space
Stations, Saturn’s Rings, Uranus, How Earth’s Moon was Formed, Climate, Plate Tectonics, Snow and Ice, Glaciers, Wind,
Erosion, Mountains, Volcanoes, Rocks, and Soil!
Described by The New York Times as “Sesame Street in Outer
Space!,” The Zula Patrol was created by Dr. Deborah Manches-
ter and boasts the multiple Emmy-nominated writing team of
Cydne Clark and Steve Granat (Disney’s Doug, Disney’s 101
Dalmations, Dennis The Menace). The series airs in the US on
National Public Television to PBS stations reaching 80% of the
domestic market.
The Zula Patrol targets kids ages 3–8 and follows the zany
aliens, Captain Bula, Professor Multo, Pilot Zeeter and their
pet Gorga and flying companions, Wizzy and Wigg, as they take
children on a roller coaster ride across the universe and teach
them a thing or two about science in the process.
“We are proud to be distributing The Zula Patrol and to be working with National Geographic to bring this universally
appealing show to this region of the world,” commented Szew.
The worldwide licensing and merchandising program for The Zula Patrol is being handled by 4Kids Entertainment. Plans
for the merchandise program include products with unique science-based play value.
JETIX EUROPE BOOSTS ACTION-COMEDY WITH CO-
PRODUCTION COMBO NINOS
Jetix Europe has announced its latest co-production, animated action comedy series Combo Ninos. Jetix Europe is
co-producing the series in close collaboration with the French production house SIP Animation and TF1.
Combo Ninos, designed to appeal to boys and girls aged 6-10, will debut on Jetix Europe’s channels from August 2008.
Jetix Europe holds the TV distribution rights and home video and consumer product rights for the series across Eu-
rope. Disney’s Buena Vista International Television will service the distribution of its television rights to Combo Ninos
and will launch the 26 episodes at Mipcom Junior in October 2007.
Combo Ninos are four kids who can transform themselves into animal-inspired superheroes. The animation includes
detailed landscapes and scenery, with inspirations from a mixture of different ancient Latin American civilisations.
