Johnny Karwan is a San Francisco based artist and designer with
a passion for all things natural, whimsical, colorful and exotic. A
graduate of the San Francisco Art institute, and a professional
artist for over 25 years, Johnny Karwan has created an enormous
body of work that has ranged broadly across a wide and diverse
array of media. This work has ranged from Public art such as
tropical airport banners and monumental murals of twenty foot
high sunflowers, to background scenes for animated features and
television as well as collections of ‘Found-Object” Sculpture and
Assemblage that have been exhibited in galleries and museums
nationwide. Many of his designs are featured on licensed products
including ceramics, paper products, beach towels and bags, needlework, apparel, fabrics
and fine art prints. He has created hand painted surface design for companies such as
Marshall Field’s, Nordstrom, Pottery Barn Kids, Tommy Hilfiger, Kimberly Clark, Baby Dior,
Target, Macy’s and many others. Recent major licensees include Clothworks for bolt and
quilting fabrics and Sun N Sand for beach bags and accessories. With a nod to the past
