TOTAL LICENSING
APPOINTMENTS FOR DISNEY CHINA
Disney Consumer Products has announced three appointments to bring strong talent into the
expanding business in China and network of successful partner relationships to meet the demands
of the rapid growth that the Company is seeing in 2008 and beyond.
“The Disney Consumer Products business is a key brand driver across Greater China and an
integral part of our overall entertainment offering,” said Stanley Cheung, Executive Vice President
and Managing Director, The Walt Disney Company, Greater China. “We are driving growth through
our expansive portfolio of popular and much loved franchises, from Mickey Mouse Clubhouse and
Disney Princess to Cars and Toy Story, to deliver high quality and innovative products for Disney
fans,” he added.
Roger Chan has been appointed as Director, Hong Kong, and will be leading the DCP Hong Kong
business with full management responsibility over the licensing and Retail, Sales & Marketing busi-
nesses. Roger joined Disney in 1996.
Steve Chan has been appointed as Regional Director, Stationery, Greater China. Steve joined Dis-
ney in 1999 and was previously Category Director, Accessories, Apparel & Footwear, China. He
continues to be based in Shanghai.
Finally, Kermid Rahman has rejoined Disney as Regional Director, Apparel, Greater China. Kermid joined Disney in 2002
and was previously Senior Category Manager, Softlines, Hong Kong. Kermid reports to Lester Lee, Vice President, Acces-
sories, Apparel & Footwear, Greater China and is based in Shanghai.
BOBBYPIN PROGRAM EXPANDS
DRi report that Bobbypin is enjoying continued success both in
the UK and internationally. A lead partner in the program is Boots
where Bobbypin toiletries and cosmetics have sold well every
Christmas since launch. With significant annual growth, this Fall dis-
tribution of the range will be extended to 1,200 stores and once
again the line will be supported both in the Boots Gift Guide (with
a six million circulation) and also as part of the retailer’s TV adver-
tising. Marks and Spencer has also been a long term partner of the
brand ranges of nightwear and quirky Disaster Designs continues
to enjoy success with fashion-led bags and gifts.
Alicia Davenport, DRi’s Licensing Director said, “The brand is a
modern-day classic offering girls and young women something
whimsical, of the moment and refreshingly different.”
As the highly acclaimed illustrator of Madonna’s first children’s
book, Jeffrey Fulvimari (the creator of Bobbypin) is now working
with her again illustrating a further 12 English Roses titles, which
Puffin will publish from Spring.
Bobbypin is also resonating in international markets where DRi has appointed a network of agents to develop the
brand. Already, stationery lines have been a hit in Europe through Quo Vadis in France, Italy and Spain, and with Paperclip
for the Benelux countries. Managed in the Benelux by Mercis, Dutch nightwear and lingerie store Hunkemoller has also
adopted the brand taking four different Bobbypin lines into its 200+ stores.
Next in line is the US, where the Wildflower Group has plans for the brand, with its launch at Licensing Show.
CONTENDER TAKE PRESCHOOL ECO-SHOW
Contender Entertainment have acquired worldwide distribution rights (excluding US and Canada) for the environmentally
focused pre-school show It’s A Big Big World. Contender Entertainment Group will manage international TV Sales, Home
Entertainment and Merchandising. The show revolves around Snook (a seven foot dancing sloth who lives in the World
Tree), his group of diverse friends and the rainforest where they all reside. In each music filled episode, children are led on
a learning adventure, with an emphasis on science and environmental awareness. Season One of It’s A Big, Big, World is
complete and comprises 40 episodes – each with two separate adventures. Season Two is in production with 15 episodes
ready by October this year, a DVD special and 25 additional episodes which will be ready by September 2009.
Show creator and producer Mitchell Kriegman comments, ‘I am extremely pleased to be working with Contender on my
successful new series It’s a Big Big World. Their talented team has proven formidable in the marketplace and their boutique
approach is a perfect fit for me as an independent producer. Their impressive history of success with properties such as
