A COUPLE OF WEEKS AGO, I
was startled by the ringing of my

the city of Columbia had expanded
almost to the border of what used
to be the tiny hamlet of Elgin. Even

According to a report by the U.S.
Census Bureau, people are moving
to the Southeast by the thousands,

and they all need homes. But today’s
home-buyers are a more savvy lot.

rooms and granite counter tops, and

the builders are delivering.
