The decision to build in the Lowcountry was an easy
one for Google. In addition to the lifestyle this area
will offer its employees, Johnson gives credit to the
recruiting efforts of South Carolina officials and local
community leaders, calling them an excellent team.
He adds, “We believe Berkeley County is a com-
munity where our operations, capital expenditure and
jobs will be a great fit and have a positive impact.”
As the buildings near completion, Google will
be hiring for four primary types of jobs: systems
administrators (software technicians), hardware
technicians, facilities (heating, air conditioning
and maintenance) and contract support services,
including security, catering and groundskeeping.
The highest paying positions, of course, will go to
systems and hardware technicians.
“The facility will employ up to 200 workers at
an average salary of about $48,000 per year plus
benefits,” says Johnson, adding that any expansion
would add to the work force.
