SWIMATHON FUND RAISER FOR INDUSTRY CHARITY
Stephen Gould, SVP UK licensing, retail and promotions at 4Kids International, has issued a call to arms to the licensing
industry. He wants them to get in the swim and join him for a three-day charity swimathon around the Maltese islands
of Gozo, Comino, and Malta at the end of September. The idea is to put together a team of fourteen swimmers plus
two support personnel. They will then generate sponsorship from commercial entities, friends, family, and colleagues
to raise thousands of pounds for The Light Fund.
Overall trip sponsorship is also being sought from the corporate sector with interest to date shown from both
Speedo and Guinness. Everyone taking part will come from the licensing industry or other charities supported by The
Light Fund. Says Stephen Gould: “We will aim to swim at least 5km per day in open water depending upon weather
conditions. The suggested minimum swimming ability is 1500m in 30 minutes i.e. 60 lengths of a 25m pool. Preferably,
we are seeking ex-competitive swimmers at this stage as a good swimming technique is just as important as general
fitness.” The five day trip from September 24 to 28 will include three days of swimming and the cost per head should
be around £489 not including flights, insurance, evening meals or drinks.
Comments Stephen Gould: “This is a great way to raise money for a very worthwhile cause. It sounds daunting but we
have a number of open water swims planned - river, lake and sea - between now and September to help the swimmers
acclimatise.” Anyone interested should contact Stephen Gould via Jane Garner at Kilogram Media.
