TOTAL LICENSING
NOVEL AND NELVANA LAUNCH ANIMATED SERIES HORRID
HENRY WORLDWIDE
Novel Entertainment, the independent producer behind hit pre-school shows Fimbles and The Roly Mo Show for CBBC
has struck an international sales and distribution deal with Canada’s Nelvana Enterprises to distribute the Horrid Henry
television animation series around the world, excluding the UK and German-speaking territories.
Currently showing on both the ITV 1 and CiTV Channels in the UK, RTE in Eire, and in Germany via ZDF
later this year, Horrid Henry is a 52 x 11 minute 2D animation series which will feature heavily in Nel-
vana Enterprises’ international marketing portfolio at MIPTV in April. The program has been on
air in the UK since October 31, 2006, and features the comic scrapes of Henry, a headstrong
boy constantly raging against the tyranny of adults and girls like Moody Margaret next door.
Based on the books written by Francesca Simon and illustrated by Tony Ross (published by
Orion Children’s Books), Horrid Henry is a worldwide publishing phenomenon. With sales
now topping 8 million books in the UK alone, Henry is available in over 25 countries world-
wide and has been translated into 21 languages, where he has assumed many different national
identities including Pablo Diablo in Spain and Rico Le Peste in Italy.
Mike Watts, MD of Novel Entertainment said: “Horrid Henry is a huge priority for us and it
has been a joy to work on such a funny and inventive children’s character. Nelvana has been a fan
of Henry since we started working on the project, and we are thrilled to be working with a distribution
partner that has such a strong international reach and an enviable reputation in the world of children’s
television.”
Lynn Chadwick, Vice President, Worldwide Sales and Distribution for Nelvana Enterprises, said: “We are
delighted to be looking after Horrid Henry internationally and if his literary popularity is anything to go by, this
show will be a huge hit. Horrid Henry is a fabulous addition to the Nelvana repertoire and we look forward to
bringing his adventures to the small screen.”
